The important thing to know when looking into an outdoor LED sign or digital bill board is that these are not one size fits all. There are a lot of factors that should help you to focus your options.
Things to think about…
Whether people are going to see your sign passing by on foot or in their cars, you want to consider how close they will be, the speed on the road, etc. These factors will help determine the size screen you’re going to need, as well as what kind of content. For example, if the speed limit is 55 you may want to stray away from content with a lot of text, as it will be difficult and distracting for passerby’s to read it. In that case, it’s better to focus on strong visuals that capture attention and get a message across.
When it comes to outdoor LED resolution, we use a term called “pitch.” This refers to how close each LED bulb is to the next. This goes along with knowing where people will be viewing your sign from. If it’s going to be placed along a highway, you don’t need to have as high of a resolution because it will be seen from further away. This will end up saving you some money, so it’s something to consider. Meanwhile, if people will be viewing the display from a city road or sidewalk, you might want to consider a higher pitch because it will be very difficult to read if the bulbs are further apart.
This will be based on things like:
Once you have these things factored into consideration, you should be ready to consult with a company that specializes in these types of solutions. A reliable company will help you along the way in getting things like zoning and power requirements taken care of.
